Blog tour: Review of I am alive by Cameron Jace

I Am Alive by Cameron Jace
Series: I Am Alive #1
Publication: May 23rd, 2012

Genre: YA Dystopian
Author Note: starting 12/1/2012 this is a newly professionally edited version

Every girl dies - not every girl really lives.

Sixteen-year-old Decca Tenderstone feels captivated when she meets gorgeous and reckless Leo, who is arrogant, silent, beautiful, and shoots almost every one he meets.

the usual boring girl meets badboy story... hmm... with a twist ...

They live in a dystopian future in Los Angeles where every sixteen-year-old is ranked on a scale from one to ten to determine their future. Outranks, who are considered a danger to society, are forced to attend the Monster Show, a brutal sacrificing ritual that is broadcasted worldwide on live TV, where rebellious teens are labelled Bad Kidz or Monsters and get to fight for their lives in deadly games.

To prove that you're still alive you have to scream I Am Alive every six hours. Lower your voice, and you're dead.

Deccaa doesn't need Leo's company. She has a secret of her own. While they both can't stand each other, she will find out why she doesn't fit into any rank.

Nothing will stand in her way as she has to make choices concerning love, life, staying alive, growing up, and finding out who she really is.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Wonderlander, Neverlander, Unicorn-chaser, enchanter, musician, survived a coma, & totally awesome. Sometimes I tell stories. Always luv the little monsters      I write young adult paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and science fiction mostly. The Grimm Diaries series is a seven book saga that deals with retellings of fairy tales from a young adult POV - it connects most of the fairy tales together and claims to be the truth about fairy tales.      I live in San Fransisco and seriously think circles are way cooler than triangles.

Before doing this review, I want you to read this apology. I had to post this on March 7th. And I explain everything there...

MY REVIEW
If you ask me if I know what I am doing, I will say no. If you ask me how I plan to do it, I'll say I don't know. If you ask me why I am doing it, I'll hesitate and think it over. But I'll tell you it's because I am planning on one thing, only one thing is on my mind: staying alive.
Wow, this book is just.. WOW!

My first impressions weren't that good about the book. It sounded way too similar to THG. And while I was reading it I found that reminded me a little bit to Divergent, too. But even if it sounds familiar to these books, at the same time, it isn't!
I have certainly learned a lot in one day, but changing is different from learning.

Ok, I'll try to explain.. It has the same background story. A killing game televised by all the nation. A dystopian government. But it's something even more than that. The story has a lot of new elements and twists that kept you hungry for more. Since the first chapter, Decca, the leading teenager surprised me. She looks like a normal person, trying to be just one more or envying the ones that have more than her. But don't let her fool you.

I think this is the greatest mistake of all, wanting so bad to be part of the crowd, whatever the price is.

Decca is strong, she's someone whom you can quickly identify yourself. She is great. And then, we have another character.. Leo.. A dream boy. He reminded me to Leon from Resident Evil videogame. LOL Really! HE'S REALLY SOMETHING ELSE!

No breathing, no preparing, and no plan.I have to learn this. Planning too much is not a strategy here. Being alert at all time is a necessity.

So, I guess I ended up wondering myself, why had I judged so bad this book? Why did I thought it would be a copy of another book? Because I was sooo wrong. My heart was beating like crazy. Even when they were not in danger, just thinking how could they feel was just amazing.
Dreaming about the nightmare is one thing, and living it is a totally different thing, especially if bitter and real as this one.

It has lot of concepts that the author mentions that seems to be very unrealistic, but I think we might not be so far away of have that technology. It was really cool to mention it and to research about it.

But the important thing about this was.. Who are you? What are we fighting for? Questions that we don't get to ask to ourselves, because we just want to be accepted, by everyone, not, to be unique. We stereotype to others. And that's not something funny to them. That's not something we should do.
I am afraid one test, one judgement, one action, or one choice will shape the rest of my life. I think this is what they call growing up.

So, this book left me attonished. REALLY! The end was a huge cliff-hanger and I just wanted to scream and see what's going to happen next! I highly recommend it for fans of THG, or for dystopians lovers. You will not be dissapointed! I assure you!
I am not my heart rate. I am not my skills. I am not my sleeping problems. I am not my stress. I am not my fears. I am not how I look like. I am the very essence of me. I am my will. I am my passion. I am my beliefs. I am how much I can give and receive love. I am infinite and possible. I am my soul. How can the iAm ever measure this?

P.S. I loved all this quotes.. GO AND READ THIS BOOK NOW!
